Resources for Stations and Inspectors
The Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP), the Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) and their contractor, Opus Inspection Technologies, Inc., recognize the need to keep vehicle inspection and repair professionals up-to-date with changes to the Massachusetts Vehicle Check Program, technical lessons learned and other related information. A newsletter, Inspection Update, is published quarterly with useful program information for licensed inspectors and registered repair technicians and facilities.
Because MassDEP, RMV and Opus are committed to conserving natural resources, the newsletter is now distributed exclusively by email to stations/inspectors and Registered Techs. In addition, an electronic version is posted on the Program website.

Inspection and Maintenance Program Advisory Council (IMPAC)
Massachusetts Vehicle Check relies on more than the Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP), the Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) and their contractor to meet its goals. The vehicle inspection and repair industry, dealer groups and commercial fleet operators are all integral contributors to the program’s success in achieving cleaner air and safer roads across the Commonwealth.
To give these important stakeholders a voice in the design, implementation and operation of Massachusetts Vehicle Check, the agencies convened the Inspection & Maintenance Program Advisory Council (IMPAC).
IMPAC meets quarterly to provide industry representatives an opportunity to learn about and discuss issues that are germane and of consequence to their businesses and operations, including program and policy changes, training programs and advances in technology.
Industry associations currently participating include:
- American Automobile Association (AAA) Northeast
- Alliance of Automotive Service Providers (AASP) Massachusetts
- Massachusetts Independent Automobile Dealers Association (MIADA)
- Massachusetts Motor Transportation Association (MMTA)
- Massachusetts State Automotive Dealers Association (MSADA)
- New England Service Station and Automotive Repair Association (NESSARA)
If you wish to participate in IMPAC meetings, please call our Customer Service Center at 1-844-358-0135 to verify you have the most current information.
