This program provides legal information. It will recommend whether you should, or should not, contact an attorney about filing bankruptcy now. If it recommends you should file bankruptcy now, it will explain why. It also will explain which type of bankruptcy you should file. This program does not create an attorney-client relationship. If you may be eligible for free legal aid, the program will suggest which legal aid may be able to assist. If the program recommends you should not file bankruptcy now, it will explain why. It also will explain when you may want to consider filing bankruptcy if your situation changes.
What is this for? The “Petition for Proceeding in Civil Case Without Payment of Fees or Costs” is a form that allows a person who has little income (or who has very high expenses) to ask a Virginia court to “waive” (which means “not require”) the fees associated with civil court actions. The form may also be informally called a “fee waiver request form” or an “in forma pauperis form” (in forma pauperis is a Latin legal term meaning to proceed as a poor person). NOTE: You cannot file this document online. The court must receive a signed paper copy.
A form for tenants seeking help from the court to make a landlord fix serious damage to the rental unit or home where they reside.
This link will take you to Legal Services of Northern Virginia's website where you will be able to access commonly used forms by category.
This program can help you create a document to take to court if you are seeking an uncontested divorce in Virginia. Uncontested means that you have lived separate and apart from your spouse for six months (if you do not have any children under 18) or one year (if you and your spouse have minor children). This separation must be continuous, without interruption and without cohabitation. In an uncontested divorce, you do not have to claim your spouse did something wrong, like adultery or desertion.
This Model Lease is intended for use by residential landlords and tenants. If you are considering using this lease, you should read all of the paragraphs of the lease and make sure you understand and agree with the terms they discuss. Once it is signed by both the landlord and the tenant, the lease is a legally binding contract. If you have any questions about anything in this lease, you should talk to an attorney about the lease before you sign it.
