- Ch 1. Use of Computers in Teaching, Learning, Research & Nursing Practice
- A.APPLICATION OF COMPUTER IN TEACHING, LEARNING: • Also called as COMPUTER AIDED TEACHING & TESTING. • Computers are widely used for teaching & testing the knowledge of students. • Many books and research papers are digitized and available on the internet. • The traditional teaching learning process in class room has limitations.
- A. APPLICATION OF COMPUTER IN TEACHING, LEARNING:(contd..) • Educational software’s are becoming more popular as they are enriching the learning process. • Multimedia enhances traditional learning process. • Computer Aided Teaching & Testing increases attention & interest.
- A. APPLICATION OF COMPUTER IN TEACHING, LEARNING:(contd..) • It improves retention. • Any topic can be studied independently any number of times. • The revision becomes fast due to interactive multimedia. • Many multimedia software are available on CD from Kindergarten to postgraduate studies.
- A. APPLICATION OF COMPUTER IN TEACHING, LEARNING:(contd..) • Multimedia for Nurses: • The Clinical Work, Patient Health Care, O.T. Preparation can be studied by Multimedia. • Now-a-days many computers and other books have CD’s for additional information in the form of Multimedia.
- B. APPLICATION OF COMPUTER IN NURSING PRACTICE: • DATA BASE CREATION: • MEDICAL DAIGNOSIS: • OBSERVATION OF PATIENTS: • HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT: • RESEARCH IN PHARMACEUTICAL LABORATORIES: • COMPUTER AIDED TEACHING: • USE OF INTERNET AND INTRANET: • HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS AND STATISTICAL PACKAGES:
- 1.DATA BASE CREATION: • Various information is required in medical science (disease, patient and is related information). • Along with this, information regarding blood banks, donors, company manufacturing medicines, medical distributors, doctors, laboratories, hospitals and the facilities available)all are important. • This information is stored systematically by means of different programs
- 1.DATA BASE CREATION: (contd..)
- 2.MEDICAL DAIGNOSIS: • The diagnosis of the disease is normally done by asking questions to the patient • Doctors with the help of their experience diagnose the disease. • In some cases some tests are conducted and results and information is used for diagnosis. • Similarly, the computers can also do the diagnosis with a proper software • Home Medical Advisor is one such type of software.
- 2.MEDICAL DAIGNOSIS: (contd..)
- 3. OBSERVATION OF PATIENTS: • Observations of the patient are recorded by means of a computer. • In I.C.U unit’s body temperature, blood pressure, heartbeat, pulse rate etc are recorded continuously with the help of computer. • Even for major fluctuation, computer at once gives indication. • In operation theaters and in I.C.U such computer aided machines are required.
- 3. OBSERVATION OF PATIENTS: (contd..)
- 4. HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT: • Hospital management is very important task and computer can handle it smoothly • The inventory of medicines is always updated by a computerized system. • Even these systems prepare purchase orders for the medicine to maintain the minimum stock in the hospital. contd…
- 4. HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT: (contd…) • Along with the inventory computers are used for other types of work like billing, patient history and many more. • Even computers are used to get advice, consultancy of experts via internet. • The information and techniques for complicated operations available on internet is used for critical operations
- 4.HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT: (contd…)
- 5. RESEARCH IN PHARMACEUTICAL LABORATORIES: • The effects of medicines are slow or fast. The reactions at the beginning, end and also intermediate are important for the research in medicine. • The compound reacts with different fluids and secretions of the body. The exact process and formula may not be known exactly. contd…
- 5. RESEARCH IN PHARMACEUTICAL LABORATORIES: (contd..) • To study and research such mechanisms formulae is very difficult. • Computers help to find exact or modified medicines. • If proper solution is not available then research can be stopped.
- 5. RESEARCH IN PHARMACEUTICAL LABORATORIES: (contd..)
- 6.COMPUTER AIDED TEACHING: • The interactive multimedia compact discs are available for the learning process. • These series are very useful to study different process, methods and skills required by the nurses.
- 6.COMPUTER AIDED TEACHING: (CONTD..)
- 7. USE OF INTERNET AND INTRANET: • The intranet is used for inter departmental communication. • The internet can be used for e-mail and chatting. • The different websites are very useful to collect latest information. • The consultation for the critical cases is available by means of internet. • During epidemic and disaster internet is very very useful.
- 7. USE OF INTERNET AND INTRANET: (CONTD..)
- 8.HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS AND STATISTICAL PACKAGES: • Hospital management systems and statistical packages are very useful for nurses and hospital to update and maintain the data bases of patients, inventory. • The diet charts, treatment and all other information can be easily recorded and can be made available to the doctors.
- 8.HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS AND STATISTICAL PACKAGES:
